3D point clouds from terrestrial and uncrewed aerial vehicle laser scanning of the Forest-Atmosphere-Interaction-Research (FAIR) site

Description

The dataset is a collection of high-resolution 3D point cloud time series acquired through terrestrial and uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) laser scanning (TLS,ULS) between 2021 and 2025. The datasets were collected during the student course Close-Range Sensing within the MSc Geography program at the University of Innsbruck.

The surveyed area is the Forest-Atmosphere-Interaction-Research (FAIR) site in Mieming (Tyrol, Austria), comprising a Pinus sylvestris forest stand accompanied by Juniperus and Erica carnea vegetation.

Terrestrial laser scanning data were collected using a RIEGL VZ-2000i, handheld laser scanning data using a GeoSLAM ZEB Horizon, and uncrewed aerial vehicle laser scanning data using a RIEGL VUX-1LR mounted on a RIEGL RiCOPTER.

The datasets are georeferenced and projected in UTM Zone 32N (EPSG:32632) and are organized into scan positions and flight strips, respectively. For the GeoSLAM ZEB Horizon data, a transformation matrix is provided, transforming from local coordinates to UTM. All data are provided in compressed LAZ format.

The Reference folder contains polygons of the areas of interest, reference measurements, buildings, and other constructions.
